Prince Harry and his new wife, American actress Meghan Markle, just returned from their honeymoon at a secret location in Canada. They wasted little time before returning to their royal duties–and on their first day back, it seemed that Meghan had some nerves.
The Duchess of Sussex joined senior royals on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the Trooping the Colour flypast this weekend. A report from Mirror Online interviewed a lip-reading expert, who claimed that Harry asked his wife if she was OK during a private exchange between the newlyweds, to which she anxiously responded, ‘Yeah’.
It was clear, however, that she was very nervous.
A few minutes later, Meghan appeared to tell her husband that she was feeling “nervous” in front of the huge crowd, who had gathered to get a view of the royals.
During another exchange between the couple, Harry said the Meghan, “Errr. When you get into it I’ll tell you more later.” Seconds later, he adds, “Then there’s the flypast and then we all look up to the sky.”
The Duchess of Sussex was making her debut on the Buckingham Palace balcony alongside her husband plus other senior royals that included Kate Middleton, Prince Charles, and the Queen–who is celebrating her 92nd birthday.
So far, it seems that the royal family has embraced Meghan even though she is a once-divorced American who is also older than her new husband. The choice reflects an evolution of values in the traditionally-rigid palace and a willingness to adapt to modern norms.
It is unclear how the royals will handle the issue of Donald Trump. In the past, Markle has been open in her criticism of the president, calling him a “misogynist.” Since the royal wedding, however, she has not made any comments about the US president. She did, however, snub the First Family by not inviting them to the royal wedding.
